Our Story

It took us a long time to get into debt.  We’d probably say about 10 years or so.  We definitely “wandered” into it.  From trips abroad, to new-ish cars, to eating out, to putting puppies -- yes you read that right, even puppies -- on our credit cards, by the time we got married, we had amassed almost $200,000 in credit card, student loan, and car loan debt.  We knew that this was not the right way to start our marriage and that we could not live like this for the rest of our lives.  So as we were walking out our pre-marital counseling, we also took Financial Peace University together.  We learned to budget, we stopped spending money, we cut up the credit cards and stopped charging things.  And we even cash flowed our wedding.  This meant that we decided early on to make sacrifices starting with our honeymoon.  It was important for us to have our wedding on the other side of the country where our entire family could attend, so we sacrificed a honeymoon and spent a little more to get across the country instead.  We learned how to sacrifice and how to choose what was more important and where our priorities were.  Because of these choices, in the first year of marriage we paid off over $93,000!!

Who are we?  We are Chrystalain & Aaron Abbett.  We have been married for over a year now, and we have paid off $107,000.  We are Abbett Road Financial Coaching and we are excited to be on the road to debt freedom and we would love to have you join us!  If you need any help or encouragement along the way, feel free to reach out, we would love to get to know you and cheer you on as you hit the road yourself!

Our Philosophy

While our “debt free” journey is not over, we have come to understand a few things that we think anyone can adopt, whether you are married or single, in debt up to their ears (as we are) or whether you are making a great salary and socking away thousands of dollars a month into your retirement account(s)!  We can always be working towards financial success, no matter where we are in our personal finances.  These are just a few of the core values we hold at Abbett Road that we think will help you as you wind your way down the road of Personal Finance.

  • We believe in having a shared goal & working towards it together
  • We believe in budgeting each and every month
  • We believe giving should be an important part of our financial plan
  • We believe in being an encouragement on this debt free journey
  • We believe in the 7 baby steps (Dave Ramsey’s 7 baby steps)
  • We believe every person has the ability to get out of debt and build wealth

Our Promise

We promise to be an encouragement to you always.  We promise to cheer you on and help when we can!  We know what it’s like to be overwhelmed and frustrated by money and we dare to refuse to live like that anymore and we want to help others cast that worry aside as well.  We promise to lift you up if you are ever feeling worried or scared about your financial situation.  We want you to live in freedom: freedom of worry, freedom of frustration, and freedom of fear.  Go forth and build wealth.
